Full Eye Examination

At Peter Baker Optical we want you to know we take eye health and visual comfort very seriously.
Why? We all know that your eyes are the windows to your soul. Regular eye tests are a quick way to monitor your eye health and make sure you are seeing properly.
Simply having your eyes examined is the best way to detect any possible problems with your eyesight now or into the future and may even reveal pointers to your general health and wellbeing.
During a comprehensive eye examination, Optometrist Nigel Whittle with over 35 years’ experience will discuss with you any family history of eye disease, check your visual acuity (how well you can see) and examine your eyes to make sure they are healthy and performing all their visual tasks properly.

Interested in bulk billing? Present your current Medicare Card during your appointment and we’ll happily offer Medicare Bulk Billing for your eye examinations. If you do not think you qualify for Medicare Bulk Billing, please discuss your options with our staff at the time of your appointment.
It is helpful to take along:
- your current glasses and/or contact lenses
- any previous optical prescriptions, if you have them
- any letters or documents about previous visits to the hospital eye department
- a list of any medications that you are taking – even if they aren’t for a problem with your eyes
- Medicare Card
- your doctor’s contact details

Digital retinal photography is a simple, quick and effective way of diagnosing eye diseases relating to diabetes, hypertension, macular degeneration and glaucoma.
We do not charge a fee for retinal imaging including this service with a full comprehensive eye exam.
For most patients imaging is very simple and only involves a camera flash
Some patients with very small pupils may require a mild drop to enlarge the pupil sufficiently for imaging. (see below)

Not usually however Nigel Whittle will discuss this with you at the time of your initial consultation and if you should have drops to permit a comprehensive exam to take place.
In most cases Nigel will suggest you make a follow up appointment with him if he thinks you will need to have drops to complete the examination and will possibly suggest you have someone drive you home after the eye exam as it is quite normal to feel a little “blurry” afterwards.
To discuss, please contact Optometrist Nigel Whittle at Peter Baker Optical on 02 9525 3255.
